Scott, as he was known, was born September 21,1952 in Dallas, TX, to Alfred Mitchell Brank and Margaret Jane Clephane. Raised in Garland, Scott graduated from Garland High School in 1971. It was here, through the FFA, that Scott’s love of the agricultural sciences began.
Upon graduation he attended Texas A&M University – intent on working in agriculture. With Vietnam in full swing, Scott enlisted in the Army serving as a medic until he was honorably discharged in 1976. While in the Army, he met Hope Elaine Dear – whom he married. Together the two returned to A&M to complete his degree in Food Science.
While in College Station, the two welcomed their first son – James Edward (Jimmy). Together they moved to Nebraska so Scott could complete his Masters degree. It was then that the family welcomed their second son – David Scott. The family soon returned to Texas, settling in Garland raising their family a block away from Scott’s childhood home.
As a food scientist, Scott used his “super taster” skills, and knowledge of science, to aid dairy product development at a number of companies including Coca Cola Food Snacks, Anheuser Busch, Americana Foods. He spent the last 20 years of his career with Rubix in Jacksonville, FL – where he and Hope built an amazing community of friends. Chances are if you have eaten at Applebee’s, Chili’s or Chic Fil A – you have experienced the flavors of Scotts formulations.
While food was Scott’s passion, his real joy was his family – especially his grandchildren. In all Scott had seven grandchildren who were his world and his reason for fighting cancer. Whether it be playing pickle ball, working on a science experiment, having a drawing contest, or helping prepare for spelling tests - Scott cherished every moment he spent with his grandkids.
He leaves behind his son Jimmy and wife Liss and their children – Elaine, Allen, Leia, and Luna; his son, David and wife Katy and their children Charlie, Ebbie and Elijah; his siblings Marilyn Hopkins (Rob) and Jim Brank (Linda), four nieces and a nephew. Scott is preceded in death by his parents and his devoted wife, Hope – whom we know anxiously awaited his arrival in heaven.
A celebration of Scott’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on April 12, 2025 at Highlands Christian Church (9949 McCree Rd, Dallas, TX 75238). A reception will follow at the family home of David and Katy Brank – where we will celebrate Scott and his love of food by serving up some of his favorite dishes.
