Moving with his family to Bartlesville, Oklahoma at a young age, Stan spent his formative years there where he graduated from College High School in 1960 and met his future wife, Sally. Growing up only six houses away from one another, Stan and Sally started dating late in their senior year of high school. Stan attended the University of Kansas and Sally went to Oklahoma State until she transferred to KU her sophomore year. They married in August of 1962 in their home town of Bartlesville. Stan graduated from the School of Business at KU in 1964 where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He went to work for Texaco following graduation. He joined IBM in 1966 in Little Rock, Arkansas. The family moved every few years as Stan advanced his career with IBM. He finished his career with Mainline Information Systems, one of IBM’s largest resellers.
During many moves over the course of his career with IBM, Stan and his family were able to call several places home. Home included Fayetteville, Ft. Smith, back to Little Rock, Kansas City, Lafayette, Louisiana, back to Kansas City, Darien, Connecticut and finally Colleyville, Texas where Stan retired from IBM. Upon retirement, they spent a relaxing eight years in Hernando, Florida before returning to Texas settling down in Fairview in 2012. Though their stay in each city was brief, the relationships they formed were lifelong.
Always keeping active, Stan’s hobbies included long distance bike rides, running, golf and tennis. He was also an avid Kansas Jayhawk fan. Whether he was cheering from the stands, on the couch, or at venues where other likeminded fans gathered, he never shied away from flaunting his Jayhawk pride. Stan was a member of the Deans Club and Board of Advisors at the University of Kansas School of Business.
Stan was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather and a loyal friend to many. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 61 years, Sally; two sons Kevin (Susan), Overland Park, Kansas and Brian (Staci), McKinney, Texas; four grandchildren Carter, Caroline, Margo and Nicholas; his sister, Virginia Elsten, Pensacola, Florida along with several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Harbor Chase Assisted Living in McKinney, Accord Hospice and Wendy McConney the Congregational Care Pastor with Creekwood United Methodist Church for the care, love and support they provided in the final stages of Stan’s life.
A service and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 21st, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Creekwood United Methodist Church located at 261 Country Club Rd. Allen, TX.
