Sandra K. Haynes (Mock), age 82, of Melissa, TX, passed away on February 3, 2025. She was born in Pittsburg, Kansas, the daughter of Faith and Cliff Mock. Sandra was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose legacy will be cherished by all who knew her.
Sandra graduated from Scattergood Friends School in Iowa and later attended the University of Southern Illinois, where she met her future husband, Jerry Haynes. The couple married and, together, they joined the Peace Corps, spending two years in Niger, Africa. Their shared experiences during this time shaped their lives and their commitment to service.
Upon returning to the U.S., Sandra became an elementary school teacher with a particular passion for helping young children learn to read. During her time in Ohio, she chaired a board that successfully passed a bond for the Lakota School District. She went on to earn a Master’s degree in Education and was named Teacher of the Year during her time in New Braunfels, TX, where she inspired countless students. Sandra's dedication to education was matched only by her love for her family and her community.
After retiring, Sandra and Jerry moved to North Texas to be closer to their son, Jeff, and granddaughter, Kristen. There, they became active Master Gardeners and Rosarians, nurturing beautiful gardens and fostering a deep appreciation for nature. Sandra also enjoyed quilting, reading, and spending quality time with loved ones. She was an avid animal lover, with a special fondness for caring for pets and wildlife, always showing a tender compassion for animals in her life.
Sandra is survived by her son, Jeff Haynes; daughter-in-law, Genie Haynes; granddaughter, Kristen Haynes; and sisters, Jennifer Sutton and Pamela Simpson (both of Illinois). She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Haynes; daughter, Pamela Haynes; parents, Faith and Cliff Mock; and brother, Gary Mock.
In keeping with her wishes, no service will be held. Sandra’s family is comforted by the knowledge that her memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
