SMSGT Phillip Wayne Odem of The Colony, Texas beloved husband of Joyce (Joy) passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at the age of 83. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joy, 5 children: Vickie Hutsell (spouse Travis), Phillip Odem II (partner Diana), Beth Tavares (spouse AJ), Amy Christensen (spouse Jeff), Keith Odem (spouse Judy). He had thirteen grandchildren: Angela Pitsch (husband Jeremy), Michael Pounds (spouse Valerie), Mary Odem, Rachael Odem, Heather Barnett (spouse Joseph), Evan Chisholm, Casey Chisholm (partner Will), Joshua Morris (spouse Cheyenne), Arianne Wagner (partner Fran), Andrew Warkentin, Cameron Tavares, Mathew Morris, and Brandy Odem. He had 19 great grandchildren. Phil retired from the Air Force after 22 plus years. He went back to school and earned his Associates in Arts Automotive Technology in June 1980. He worked in the marine repair business in Morgan’s Point Resort, Texas, until he opened his own marine repair business, Waymar Industries in 1985. His second retirement was in 2002 when Phil and Joy moved to The Colony. He loved hunting and traveled to Ireland and Argentina (3 times) with Joy to pursue that love. He also enjoyed golf, crossword puzzles and walking. He was a life member of NRA, as well as both the National Skeet and National Sporting Clays Association. Full military honors will be given at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at a later date.
