Nancy Norris Walker

Obituary of Nancy Norris Walker

Nancy Norris Walker of Richardson, Texas, passed away on July 22, 2026, at the age of 86. She was born on May 17, 1940, in Mexia, Texas. Nancy grew up in Houston, Texas, and graduated from Houston Milby High School. She received a B.A. in Speech from North Texas State University (now UNT) in Denton and received a Master’s Degree in Speech from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. She married Jonathan Edward Walker on June 15, 1963. Nancy and Jon lived in Houston, Chicago, Ann Arbor, and Denver before finally moving to Richardson in 1974. Nancy worked as a school teacher for much of her professional life, most recently teaching public speaking and coaching the debate team for the Hockaday School in Dallas. She also taught speech communication courses at Metropolitan State College in Denver and at Richland College in Dallas. Nancy also worked in the real estate industry for several years. She was a global traveler, an accordion player, and a typewriter enthusiast. She and Jon proudly helped raise and cared for many young people, including numerous foster children and exchange students.

Nancy is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Jonathan E. Walker, her parents, Ezekiel Loyd and Alva Louise (Garrett) Norris; her brother David Norris; her son Chuck Schaffer; and her grandson Jonathan Musa-Parramore. Nancy is survived by several children, including Scott Walker, Kimberly Vincent, Shari Hurtado, Rakia Musa, Thuylinh Roschangar, Khanhlinh White, Mylinh Merlin, Hoailinh Nguyen, and Pauline Fraser. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Camilo Walker, Amara Walker, Monique Vincent, Martin Vincent, Madelyn Hurtado, Winston White, Chloe Merlin, Samantha Merlin, Phebe Nguyen, Pax Nguyen, and Nathan Fraser.

Nancy will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and former co-workers.
