Milton Roth passed away on January 24th, 2017 at home in Murphy, Texas of natural causes. He was 91. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Ernest and Martha Roth. His parents moved to Texas while he was growing up. Milton came of age during the Great Depression. He was sixteen years old when the attack on Pearl Harbor came. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on his 17th birthday August 20,1942 and served with honor until his discharge in 1946. He re-enlisted in 1950 for the Korean War and was discharged in 1951 at the rank of Technical Sergeant. Between wars, he met and married his first wife Jean Margaret Cooper. They had two sons, Alan and Louis. Milt embarked on a sales and publishing career that was to last until he retired. In that time, he founded and operated J & R Map Company and Western Map and Publishing Company, small advertising firms which produced and published city maps and directories. When he wasn’t traveling the country developing new clients, Milt pursued his favorite pastimes; Photography, fishing, golf and flying. In the 70’s, Milt became a licensed private pilot and purchased his own aircraft, a Cessna 182. Milt flew the friendly skies for many years in his airplane, doing business and taking family vacations. If there is any consensus about Milt, it is that he was an avid fan of Texas Hold'em Poker and played in numerous tournaments in the Dallas area. He was a member in good standing with the WPT (World Poker Tour) and the AHL (Amateur Hold'em League) where he was ranked in the top twenty of over 5000 members. As a top ranked poker player he enjoyed the honor of being selected to play in annual tournaments for the organization in Las Vegas. Texas Hold'em Poker was his passion in his later years. He was friendly, outgoing and engaging with everyone. His gift was an ability to talk to anyone about anything. This was not only a key to his success as a business owner, but also as an individual. Milt had a zest for life and enjoyed living it. He was loyal to his friends and a passionate romantic. Courageous and self confident, Milt threw himself into whatever in life he applied himself to. Milton Roth is survived by his sons, Alan Roth (Jeannie) and Louis Roth (Margaret). Grandchildren; Amanda (Eugene) Warren, Chad (Tracey) Roth and Deanna (Brad) Cooper. Great Grandchildren, Chance, Sara, Corbin, Ashlyn, Ryan, Ethan, Isabell, Allison, Katie, Faith, Dylan and Taylor. His second wife, and former spouse Polly Evans, step-daughters Diane Tabler and Anita Work and their families.
