Born in Alice, Texas, Lloyd “Lynn” Belitz’s parents, Ben and Margueritte, could not have imagined the contributions their son would make to the world. His athleticism, wit, generosity and love for people was extraordinary.
Lynn always told the story of his little south Texas hometown of Alice with a population around 20,000 that produced two Nobel Prize winners, a Pulitzer Prize winner and a movie star. When he was the quarterback at William Adams High School, he had one of the best passing records in the state of Texas. He also ran track and played basketball and baseball. He especially enjoyed his mini reunions with classmates who shared stories and laughter. Lynn enjoyed bowling, softball, and fishing, and he truly loved golf. Lynn’s love of sports and participation allowed him to make lifelong friends and meet so many special athletes from the NFL, PGA, college athletics, singers and musicians. He was a Texas Rangers fan and cheered for the Dallas Cowboys and Texas A&M Aggies.
Lynn was extremely proud that he served his country in the United States Army Security Agency. During the Cold War he participated in electronic counterintelligence, fighting communism. He was stationed in Berlin, West Germany, 110 miles behind the Iron Curtain. He was a sharpshooter who was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Berlin. His General recognized his athleticism and recruited him to play football and softball. His softball team won the Softball Berlin Champions title in 1965.
For 57 years, Lynn served as a financial advisor in Houston and in Dallas. He loved his clients, and especially cherished the relationships he developed with his fellow colleagues. He continued his life of service after moving to Oak Cliff. He served on the board of North Oak Cliff Greenspace and was a member of Methodist Hospitals of Dallas Guild and Oak Cliff Lions Club.
Lynn had a gift for telling great jokes and stories, entertaining not only his family, but North Oak Cliff Breakfast Club, neighborhood happy hours, and dinner club companions as well as his Tee Breaker friends. His unexpected passing on the golf course has left a hole in the lives of his beloved wife of 26 years, Lila Belitz, and of his stepdaughter, Aleah Pace, of Dallas. Also grieving are his sister Annie Greenwell (husband Mike) of Katy, Texas, his nephews Scott and Michael (wife Kimberly) Greenwell and Billy and Ben Mitcham, his nieces Kelsey and Kaitlyn Greenwell and his many friends. Lynn was preceded in death by his sister, Judi Davis, and his son, Rick Belitz.
Contributions in Lynn's memory can be made to Methodist Hospitals of Dallas Guild and Oak Cliff Lions Foundation.
