Born in Crystal City, Texas, Karen’s life became a grand adventure after marrying into the military. Her journey took her across the globe, creating cherished memories in destinations such as Korea, Hawaii, and Panama, before eventually returning home to her beloved Texas.
An exceptionally talented interior decorator and the proud owner of The Inside Story, Karen had a gift for transforming spaces and lives. She poured her creativity into her own colorful home and took immense joy in hosting beautifully appointed celebration events and dinners. Her signature touch always included her favorite palate color, teal, bringing a sense of elegance and personality to everything she touched.
Karen was preceded in death by her loving mother, Alyne, and her father, Alonzo Carter.
Her memory will be forever cherished by her surviving family: her son, Carter, and his wife, Michele; her daughter, Shannon, and her husband, Scott; and her two beloved grandchildren, Mallory and Andrew. She is also survived by her cherished dog, Dulcinea, who has safely been placed in a wonderful, loving home.
She also leaves behind a core of best friends: Melinda Kilian, Carole SanMiguel, and Libby Troell, along with many treasured friends including Betty Barnett, Kaye Fleet, and many others.
In accordance with her wishes, Karen’s cremated remains will be scattered in the Gulf of Mexico, returning her to the vast waters of the world she so loved to explore.
Until we meet again, we send her off with a final, fond farewell: Aloha.
