

Born on June 7, 1942, John was the youngest son in a family of seven. He attended Scottboro High School in Alabama from 1956 to 1960. Throughout his life, he exemplified service, integrity, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to his faith, family, and country.
John proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 20 years as a Computer Systems Superintendent, retiring in August 1980. Following his retirement from military service, John continued his pursuit of education and personal growth by earning a Master of Science degree in Personnel Management from Troy State University in Montgomery, Alabama in 1981.
A bright and intelligent soul, John was recognized for his exemplary military service with numerous honors and decorations, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon, and the Air Force Longevity Service Award.
John loved playing golf and had a gift for connecting with people from all walks of life. He will be remembered for his kindness, unwavering faith, generous spirit, and deep love for others. A devoted Christian, John dedicated much of his life to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
His missionary work took him throughout Africa, including South Africa, Namibia, Zambia, and Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe where he shared the message of hope and faith through broadcasts on Breeze FM 91.2.
John's greatest joy was his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Tholani Pickles; his daughter and stepson from he’s first marriage; five stepchildren; six grandchildren; and his cherished step-grandchildren, Nicole Lihle and Kaiden.
John's legacy of service, faith, kindness, and generosity will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his country, his passion for sharing the Gospel, and his remarkable ability to build meaningful connections wherever he went.
Though he is no longer with us in person, his love, wisdom, and example will remain in our hearts forever.
