Joan was born in Camden, NJ on April 19, 1940 to Joseph and Martha Fields. She went to Pennsgrove High School, Pennsgrove, NJ.
She married Robert A. Lux on August 16, 1975 in Brookside, Newark, DE.
Joan worked for the Dupont Company for several years before going to work as the Executive Secretary for the Superintendent of Construction of the Newark Schools Administration Office in Delaware. Upon moving to The Colony in 1980, she held the same position with the Dallas School District Administration until 1986.
Two weeks after moving to The Colony on March 13, 1980, she went to a Parks & Recreation meeting and volunteered to organize the 4th of July Parade. By the 4th of July she knew a couple hundred people.
In 1981, Joan was part of the group that established the Holy Cross Catholic Church in The Colony. She was on the church council, Youth Minister, Confirmation Leader, and Retreat Leader. During this time, she also went back to college at TWU to pursue a career in teaching. She went on to teach Language Arts at Griffin Middle School from June 1991 to June 2001. The stories of students she impacted during that time are endless.
In 1983, along with two other women, she organized, campaigned, and collected the signatures needed to put legalized alcohol sales in The Colony on the 1984 ballot.
In 1989 Joan joined the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. At Prince of Peace, she taught Sunday School and confirmation, put on Caraway Street puppet shows, organized Junior Youth Ministry, went on three ministry trips to the Cree Nation, and was part of the original Steven Ministry and Alter Prayer Ministry.
After retiring in June 2001, Joan became the volunteer administrator for Serving Him International Healthcare Ministries. She was responsible for keeping track of who was going on various trips, the funds raised by each missionary, and the distribution of supplies to the trip leaders. She held this position until June 2014.
In 2005, Joan joined Lakeside Community Theater as the Membership Chair responsible for keeping track of season ticket holders and individual ticket sales for each show. She held this position until 2020.
Aside from a successful work life, Joan enjoyed many hobbies. She was an avid reader, crafter, florist, and lover of gardening. Joan is remembered by those closest to her as a wonderful hostess, she and her husband Bob entertained many guests over the years in their beloved backyard oasis. Bob and Joan also had many dogs over the years whom they deeply loved.
Joan is survived by her husband, Robert Lux; daughter, Lisa Kisner of Frisco, TX and her daughter Lauren; step-sons Robert D Lux of The Colony, TX and his daughter Elena and her two sons (great grandchildren). Step-son Kenneth J Lux and his wife, Andrea of New Port Richey, FL and their children Amber, Nico, and Christian. Joan is also remembered by her honorary grandchildren Cameron, Kelsey (God daughter), Kyle and wife Kayla and honorary great-grandchildren Trent, Evelyn, Hayes, and many many others.
The family would like to offer sincere thanks to the Legacy at Willow Bend skilled nursing team as well as the hospice team. They gave outstanding care.
