short battle with cancer. Born to Jesse Lee Norris and Claudia Marie Norris of Arkansas, he
was the oldest of 5 children. Gene was a beloved husband, brother and uncle.
After college, Gene joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Polk in Louisiana. During his
enlistment he was deployed to Germany during the Vietnam War, before returning to Fort Polk.
In his retirement, Gene was a gardening enthusiast, with a green thumb that many envied! His
love for the outdoors extended beyond his garden; he fell in love with the Ozark Mountains and
enjoyed vacationing there. In addition, he was a curator of vintage works, who loved finding
valuable historical pieces and researching their significance. Most importantly, he was a proud
supporter of his brother and sisters, and nieces and nephews. Gene cared deeply for his family
and took great pride in their many accomplishments.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors are his spouse Darrell Geer; siblings, Shirley (Bob) Hayes of Prairieville, LA, Tommy
Norris of Jackson, MS, Pam (Bill) Humphries of El Dorado, AR and Barbara (Jerry) Keaster of
Hattiesburg, MS. Along with 10 nieces and nephews and 10 great nieces and nephews.
Gene will be remembered by his family and friends for his vibrant personality, booming voice
and unconditional love. Memorials can be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
