Jeanne had just turned 80 and after decades of pain and never losing her faith in God, she was finally called home to her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 12, 2020, at a skilled nursing facility.
Jeanne was born on May 8, 1940 and was the youngest of five children that lived on a farm in Austin, Minnesota. Her parents were Grace Irene Miller (Lonergan) and George William Miller.
Jeanne is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 59 years, James Dean Veverka. They met in grade school when Jeanne was a tomboy from the country and Jim was a city boy and he pulled her precious pigtails. They started dating in college and married September 2, 1961.
Jeanne is also survived by their son Jeffrey Mark Veverka, daughter-in-law Tracy and their kids Katie Nicole and Zachary James of Frisco, Texas; their daughter, Jennifer Jeanne (Jenny) Veverka Crossland, favorite son-in-law Ronnie Crossland and their kids Margaret Jennifer “Maggie” Crossland Christian (and husband Jordan) and Rhett Dean Crossland of Plano. Grandma’ma adored her children, their spouses and her sweet and handsome grandchildren fiercely!
Jeanne is also survived by her sister Mary Ellen (Miller) Murphy in Minnesota, her sister-in-law Marie Miller in Wisconsin, her sister-in-law Carolyn Veverka in Minnesota and many nieces and nephews mostly in Minnesota and Illinois.
Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents, Grace and George Miller, her two brothers Don Miller and Jerry Miller, sister Patricia Miller, sister-in-law Mary Ellen Miller, and her brothers-in-law Marvin Veverka and Ronnie Veverka.
Jeanne graduated from Pacelli Catholic School in Austin, Minnesota. She attended St. Teresa College in Winona, Minnesota then transferred to The University of Minnesota. She then married her soulmate in 1961, and they had their two kids, Jeff and Jenny, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin then moved to Chicago before she went back to college to finish her undergraduate degree. After they moved to Texas in 1977, Jeanne finished her master’s degree in education from Texas A&M Commerce. Jeanne was a beloved teacher for several decades mostly in 2nd grade at Stonewall Jackson Elementary School in Dallas where she won Teacher of the Year Award and loved her students and fellow teachers.
Jeanne was an avid tennis player and golfer. She had an awesome forehand and made a Hole in One at Sherrill Park Golf Course and never let her kids forget that!
Although Jeanne was busy teaching school, finishing her master’s degree, playing tennis and taking her kids everywhere, she always prioritized her bible studies and time with her husband and family. She loved to entertain and always made people feel special and welcome. She loved when grandkids and their friends would come over as she treated it like a chance to teach again and they came home knowing their state capitals or something new.
After retirement from many years of teaching, she wanted to travel and decided it was expensive, so she got a job at American Airlines as a reservation agent where she helped many people, won many awards and flew all over. She loved to travel with Jim, their whole family, and their friends. Favorite travels included the many family trips to Maui with their kids and grandkids, family trip to France/Europe, Australia, France with friends, Greece, and the Holy Land with their church group.
Jeanne and Jim attended Fellowship Bible Church Dallas for decades and were involved in their Community group with dear friends for many years. Jeanne loved the pro-life ministry to single moms and families and children in crises and served many hours in the foundation and in the resale store of www.LifeSaversFoundation.org. Most recently, when Jeanne’s health allowed, they attended Highland Country Fellowship Church when it started as they loved Sammy Davenport’s worship and singing.
Jeanne suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis and other immune diseases and complications for the last 35 years. She had endured surgeries and pain that no one can imagine yet maintained her pure inner joy and care for others. She loved God, truly was grateful for her life, and never gave up hope to be cured.
Jeanne is finally pain free and living with Jesus and no doubt playing tennis and golf.
A celebration of Jeanne’s life was held Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Country Fellowship Church 8202 Boedeker in Dallas, TX 75225. Below is the link to the service:
Although, Jeanne loved pretty flowers, contributions may be made in her name to www.LifeSaversFoundation.org and Highland Country Fellowship Church in Dallas.
Jeanne had written:
I hope my life has told the story of the life and death, resurrection and love of Jesus and I shone the light and hope of that love into the world.
I have been blessed with the love, grace, peace, joy and hope of Our Heavenly Father.
That you did, Jeanne – Mom – Grandma’ma’. Job well done!
Romans 15:13
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Soul of Christ
Soul of Christ, make me holy.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, fill me with living power.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me clean.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within your wounds hide me.
Never let me be separated from you.
From the evil enemy defend me.
At the hour of my death call me, and command me then to come to you,
that with your Saints I may Praise you for all eternity.
Amen.
Remember Me
By Anthony Dowson
Speak of me as you have always done.
Remember the good times, laughter, and fun.
Share the happy memories we’ve made.
Do not let them wither or fade.
I’ll be with you in the summer’s sun
And when the winter’s chill has come.
I’ll be the voice that whispers in the breeze.
I’m peaceful now, put your mind at ease.
I’ve rested my eyes and gone to sleep,
But memories we’ve shared are yours to keep.
Sometimes our final days may be a test,
But remember me when I was at my best.
Although things may not be the same,
Don’t be afraid to use my name.
Let your sorrow last for just a while.
Comfort each other and try to smile.
I’ve lived a life filled with joy and fun.
Live on now, make me proud of what you’ll become.
~
I am home in heaven, dear ones:
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this evening light.
All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed:
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in heaven at last.
There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand:
Do it now, while life remaineth-
You shall rest in God’s own land.
When the work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home:
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!
