Betty was born on January 29, 1924, Little Rock, Arkansas. She had just celebrated her 95th birthday with her children Jim and Sherry Lyon, Plano, Texas; Tom and Mary Bene, Ketchum, Oklahoma; and Wayne and Sherry Bene of OklahomaCity, Oklahoma. She is also survived by brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Everett and Peggy Bene, Little Rock, Arkansas. Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband Thomas (Tom) L. Bene; her parents Claude and Gladys Bivens, her sisters Claudia Sparrow and Patricia (Patti) Cary, and her grandson James Lee Lyon. She leaves a legacy of 12 grandchildren and 25 great
grandchildren.
Betty and Tom met in Little Rock, Arkansas and later married. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Oklahoma City where they constructed, owned and operated Golf Acres, an entertainment center which included two 18 hole miniature golf courses, a nine hole Par 3 golf course, a driving range, two baseball cages, a go-cart track, picnic areas and best of all hayrides. After selling Golf Acres, they moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, and later to Plano, Texas for the last 23 years. Betty was a true Southern Steel Magnolia, dressed to the nines with sparkling blue eyes.
Memorials in Betty's name may be made to Bed Start or Treasured Times, in care of Custer Road United Methodist Church at 6601 Custer Road, Plano, Texas 75023.
Memorial services will be held on April 13, 2019, at Custer Road United Methodist Church with the time to be determined. Interment will be at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
