Janet Mary Hook

Janet M. Hook, 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 8, 2021 in Denison, Texas. A Celebration of Life service will be held August 14, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at Windom Methodist Church, Windom, Texas. Janet was born April 4, 1937 in Breckenridge, Minnesota and grew up in Rosholt, South Dakota. Janet graduated from Rosholt High School in 1955. She married Donald L. Hook April 4, 1959. During their 62 years of marriage, Janet and Don lived in several different towns in South Dakota, and in Marshall, Minnesota. After Don’s retirement they traveled for a few years and then settled in Windom, Texas.

Janet worked as a nurse’s aide and hairstylist and later became a stay-at-home mom. Janet and Don were also wonderful foster parents for several children. Janet had a beautiful voice and sang at weddings, and in church choir. Janet was creative and sewed many of her children’s clothes when they were growing up. She had a green thumb and was always so proud of her beautiful rose bushes and flowers. Ceramics was also a hobby of hers and when her granddaughters would visit, they always came home with pieces she helped them pick out to paint. She loved Christmas and always baked a freezer full of Christmas candies, cookies and bars. Janet enjoyed fishing and her eyes lit up whenever she talked about going fishing with her son-in-law, Joe. She had a competitive streak and loved to play cribbage and games. Some of the gifts she gave us was her witty comebacks, silly pranks, feistiness, laughter, and especially her love of family.

Janet was preceded in death by her brother, Jerry age 19, her parents, Ralph and Rosella (Voss) Stelton, step-grandson, Trace and most recently her treasured Aunt Veoma Renelt.

Survivors include her husband Donald, sister, Karen (Gordon) Richards, three children: Hope (Joe) Daniels, Cheryl (Jim) Hook and Greg (Kelly) Hook; grandchildren: Travis Hillestad, Sarah Hillestad, Chelsie Morris, Amy VanKlompenburg, Gabriel Hook, Donovan Hook; step-granddaughter Tamara Logsdon, great grandchildren: Kylee Severance, Asher Severance, Remi Morris, Baby Boy Morris due in July, Jaci VanKlompenburg, Persephone and Ayita Hook, Harper Logsdon and many other relatives and friends.
