Horace Russell Lewallyn, 69, went to be with his Lord and Savior in the early morning of Thursday, March 9. After a five-year battle with melanoma, he is finally free of pain and singing with the angels. He was born on December 30, 1947, to Benny and Elizabeth Lewallyn in Dallas, Texas. He graduated from Lancaster High School and then attended Dallas Baptist College. He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany and Vietnam, where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal, the Expert Badge (Rifle) and the Bronze Star Medal. He married the love of his life, Shirley Wright, on October 17, 1970. They were deeply in love and shared 46 years together. Horace worked in the wholesale produce industry for more than 50 years. God gifted Horace with a passion for singing that he loved to share with everyone he met. He was a dedicated and active member in the choir at Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church. He loved to fish, play golf, and attend Texas Ranger games. Horace lived out the fruits of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. A Visitation and Memorial Service will be held Sunday, March 12 at Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church, 9810 La Prada Dr., Dallas, TX 75228. Family will greet guests and visit from 2pm-3pm; service will begin at 3:00 PM. He is survived by Shirley and their three children: Russell Lewallyn and wife Cheryl of Grapevine, Texas; Randy Lewallyn and wife Allison of Sunnyvale, Texas; and Angela Nicosia and husband Tony of Gloucester, VA. While Horace loved his children, his grandchildren were the apple of his eye and the joy of his life, Clara Elizabeth Lewallyn, age 8 and Connor Benjamin Nicosia, age 6 months. He also had two bonus grandsons: Adam Logan and Ben Logan of Arlington, Texas. He is also survived by his two sisters: Linda Chandler and husband Tony of Lindale, Texas and Marla Stacks and husband James of Mansfield, Texas; along with a large family and a host of wonderful friends.
