Charles Allen Griffiths

Our beloved Charles Allen Griffiths (Chuck) of Detroit, Michigan, passed away on August 12th in Rockwall County, Texas, at age 74. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 3003 Horizon Road, Rockwall, Texas 75032, with lunch to follow. Pastors George Ruwisch and Jaime Gonzales will officiate.

The Committal will be held at 1:30 P.M., Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the Gilmore Township Cemetery, Grace Road and M-22, Elberta, Michigan. A reception will follow; location to be announced. Pastor Jason Bauer of Redeemer of Interlochen will officiate.

Chuck was born in Detroit, Michigan, on June 9, 1952, to Richard Arthur Griffiths and Lillian Ida Marie Gersh Griffiths. He was baptized on July 20, 1952, and confirmed on May 22, 1966, at Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from Redford Union High in Redford Township, Michigan, in 1970. He was the football team captain and earned “All-State” recognition. He attended Michigan Tech University on a football scholarship and earned a Bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1975. After graduation, he worked as an assistant football coach at Michigan Tech and then Ball State University. Later, he moved to Dallas for leadership positions in the commercial sound industry, and eventually transitioned into a second career with Thrivent Financial.

He married Anna Marie Harrison on July 28, 1991, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Dallas, Texas. Together they raised and loved two children, Chelsie Marie Griffiths and Cory Lynn Griffiths.

Chuck was a man of many roles, in which he exemplified his Christian faith with humility and servitude. He was a dedicated family man, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, faithful brother, uncle, Godfather, friend, and patriot. He was a giver and a listener, possessing a true servant's heart. His mind was brilliant, and his spirit was gentle yet competitive. His passion was his children and grandchildren. He was a fisherman who loved camping, fishing, and frying them up with his family. He was always involved in church leadership, coached his children’s sports teams, and assisted with church youth and scouting activities. For almost a decade, Chuck was the color radio broadcaster for the Greenville High School football team. He was an avid fan and critic of the Detroit Tigers. He loved playing games, especially Cribbage. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, and was proud to have visited all 50 states.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Arthur Griffiths (7/20/1917-12/06/1972) and Lillian Ida Marie Gersh Griffiths (1/16/1921-09/29/1989). He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Anna Marie Griffiths; their children, Chelsie Marie Griffiths Stout and husband, Ryan Lee Stout; Cory Lynn Griffiths and wife, Dana Marie Glarum Griffiths; beloved grandchildren Cash Allen Stout, Carter Ryan Stout, Ellie Marie Griffiths, and Thomas Allen Griffiths; his siblings and their spouses, Kent Richard Griffiths and wife Laura, Nancy Carol Midura, and husband Steve, and Christine Susan Robinson, and husband Jay; cherished family member, Janet Lee Griffiths; his nephews, Jonathon Henry Zavislak and wife Kimberly, Adam Richard Zavislak, and wife Paige, Joseph Erik Robinson, and wife Samantha, and David Michael Robinson, and wife Jennifer; his Godchildren, Jonathon Henry Zavislak, David Michael Robinson, Selah Grace Hander, and Griffin Henry Zavislak; and countless friends.
