Archana Mathur of Plano, Texas (previously of Burlington, Massachusetts), passed away peacefully with both of her daughters at her bedside at the Beehive Homes of Frisco in Frisco, Texas. on Thursday, August 24, 2023. She was 76 years old and fought a long, hard battle with vascular dementia.
Archana was born on November 1, 1946, in New Delhi, India. She was the daughter of Rajesh Behari Lal and Brijrani Mathur. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Economics from Delhi University.
Archana had an arranged marriage and met her husband, Pukhraj Bahadur Mathur, through her father and his father. They were married on March 2, 1968 in New Delhi, India. Pukhraj called Archana his “Queen of Hearts”. They moved to Cambridge, MA in the early 1970s and then moved into their first home in Burlington, MA in the mid 1970s. Savin Street held a special place in Archana’s heart. She loved catching up with all of her neighbors. She lived on Savin Street for about 40 years. Heavily involved with raising her daughters, Archana waited until her daughters were in high school to get her first job at Filene’s Basement in Burlington, MA, where she worked there for a number of years. She met many great friends while employed there.
Some interests that Archana had included cooking, socializing with her friends, and taking family vacations to India and local casinos. She was known by many in the community for making all of her North Indian entrees and desserts. She was very outgoing and talkative and had a great big laugh. She enjoyed shopping in India for sarees, snacks and jewelry. She truly enjoyed going to the casinos in New Jersey and Connecticut. It was a special place to spend time with family and friends.
Archana is predeceased by her loving husband of 48 years, Pukhraj Bahadur Mathur. She is survived by her daughters Veenita Rao of Plano, TX and Kavita Whitney of Epsom, NH and son-in-laws Brad Whitney of Epsom, NH and Arvind Rao of Plano, TX. She was the proud grandmother of Avinash Rao, Nicholas and Angelica Whitney. She was the sister of the late Alok Behari Lal (and his wife Manju), Atul Behari Lal (and his wife Nirupama), late Akhil Behari Lal (and his wife Sushma), Sharad Mathur (and her husband Ravinder), Madvi Mathur (and her husband Roopinder), and Amit Behari Lal (and his late wife Anita). She is also survived by many relatives in India, the United States and Canada.
Archana lived a full life. A loving and devoted wife and mother, and caring friend, she touched the lives of everyone with her sincerity, kindness, gentleness and positivity. After her husband’s passing, Archana with her strong willed and determined nature, devoted the rest of her life to taking care of her children and grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 16, at 10 AM at Restland Funeral Home, located at 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas TX 75243.
