On April 25, 2023, Susan Jane (Ungar) Ruszin (69) passed away after suffering from injuries received in a horrific car accident 18 months ago. Susan leaves her granddaughter, Zoe Ruszin, whose caretaking, and support, were unwavering. Susan has already lost her husband, Gearge Ruszin (deceased 2009), and their only child, George Ruszin Junior (deceased 2019). Susan Jane Ruszin was an outstanding Nurse Educator, and a wonderful grandmother, mother, wife, and sister.
A Celebration of her Life is being led by Pastor Brian Brooks, on Saturday, April 29, 2023. Living Hope Church is located at 327 Trump Ave. Northeast, East Canton, OH 44730. The service will begin at 6:00 pm and be live-streamed. Light refreshments are being served afterwards.
For over 45 years, Susan worked in the healthcare industry both in Cleveland and Tampa. From the Emergency Room through the Intensive Care Unit, the Critical Care through Cardiac Surgery Unit, Susan has practiced both in adult and pediatric settings. This hands-on work she did made Susan a very qualified instructor teaching in the hospitals and universities. Nursing Educator Extraordinaire!! These were the words commonly written on the course evaluation sheets by her students.
In addition, Susan founded her own company, Ruszin Healthcare Education Group, in Tampa, Florida. Her specialties were in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, American Heart Association courses, Emergency Nursing courses, just to name a few. Her granddaughter, Zoe, helped with the registrations and trainings. Susan often said that she did whatever Zoe told her to do. Both have the same contagious smile one just can’t miss.
Susan was extremely intelligent with a photographic memory and always learning new things. At 62-years of age, she completed her third master’s degree with this one being in business. Susan taught her last course a few days before she died. She was once again highly praised for her extraordinary teaching abilities.
Susan was the second of seven children of Ruth and Don Ungar (deceased 2019). She is survived by her mother and six brothers and sisters: Karen R. Boyle, Donald A. Ungar Jr. (Darlene), James W. (Gail), Loretta M. Trevino, Kenneth J. Ungar, and Eleanor J. Brooks (Brian). The family loved to get together and play pinochle. Susan will always be remembered as an excellent card player and very tough to beat. She made things fun with that contagious laugh and beautiful smile.
Susan died at her sister’s home in Aurora, OH. Her last 8 months were extremely painful with heart and breathing issues. Even though she kept trying to recover from that car accident, the setbacks kept happening. Susan kept trying to be positive. She kept laughing and smiling, still winning at pinochle games.
A Celebration of her Life will be held in Canton, OH, at 6:00 pm, on Saturday, April 29, 2023. Pastor Brian Brooks, her brother-in-law, will conduct the service at Living Hope Church of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, at 327 Trump Ave Northeast, East Canton, OH 44730.
As Susan Jane Ruszin joins her husband and son in paradise, there is no doubt that she will continue to praise God for all the blessings of this life.
