Sinda Luisa Effler passed away peacefully due to complications from long-term illnesses on May 15, 2023. Sinda was born in Biendenkopf, Germany to Waltraut and Jakob Effler on March 26, 1951. She arrived in New York City on December 15, 1954, with her parents and two brothers and became a United States Citizen in Cleveland on February 3, 1961. Sinda lived in the Cleveland and Lorain areas her entire life. She attended Westlake High School and received her Registered Nursing Degree from the Cuyahoga Community College Nursing Program. Sinda worked as a Registered Nurse for over 40 years until she retired in 2013. Her employers included Lutheran Hospital, Elyria General and The Ohio State Penitentiary System. Sinda was well-known for her knowledge, perfectionism, stubbornness and focus on patient care as she encouraged everyone to do what was right and best for the patient and each other.
Sinda was a life-long lover of animals. As a teenager, she had numerous rabbits, birds and cats that she would always sneak into her bedroom. Sinda also owned horses during one phase of her life and taking care of horses resulted in a lasting love for the Kentucky Derby. After finally convincing her mother’s best friend to get the family a dog, Sinda developed a love for Irish Setters. Her home was soon filled with dogs, and she prided herself on raising, showing and loving her Irish Setters through Champion, Obedience and Conformation titles, including Redd, Bach and many others. She even bought an RV so that she and her friends could go to dog shows and keep the dogs comfortable. Sinda is now roaming the heavens with her pack of furry friends in the never-ending countryside of heaven.
Sinda had three great loves in her life – her “country-side” home overlooking her beautiful koi fish pond, her many pet companions, and, most importantly, her close friendships she developed over the years, especially Jackie, Shari and Ron Caffo, Donna Turchanik, Sue Musil, Betty Erlich, Barb and John Sommerfelt, Lynette Barr (deceased) and Cheryl “Charlie” Nordstrom (deceased). She especially enjoyed eating at Red Lobster surrounded by her friends that she loved so very much.
Sinda is preceded in death by her parents, Waltraut and Jakob Effler and her brother Johann Effler. Sinda is survived by her brother Bernard Effler in North Ridgeville, her sister Barbara Effler and her family in California, her cousin Sylvia (Steven) Wallace and their family in Columbus, Ohio and her many very dear friends in the Irish Setter Club of Ohio.
Sinda did not request any memorial service. She made arrangements with The Neptune Society to handle her cremation and the scattering of her ashes in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Irish Setter Club of Ohio, c/o Ron Caffo, Treasurer, 4605 Kew Drive, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all of Sinda’s caregivers, particularly the staff at Southwest Hospice, Margie Karl, her elder care attorney, Tina Marini, the Neptune Society Funeral Director, and her wonderful friends, especially Jackie Caffo, Shari Caffo, Donna Turchanik, Sue Musil and Barb Sommerfelt and so many others for their care, compassion and continued friendship throughout Sinda’s life – she appreciated and loved you all.
