She married her beloved, Donald A. Ungar (2019), on October 20,1951. They were married for 68 years before he died and had seven children. Karen R. Boyle, Susan J. Ruszin (2023), Donald A. Ungar Jr. (Darlene), James W. Ungar (Gail), Loretta J. Trevino, Kenneth W. Ungar, Eleanor J. Brooks (Brian). They were blessed with 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Ruth taught all of us to love life, be resilient, care about each other, and trust in God.
As a devoted Catholic, she prayed the rosary and the Divine Chaplet daily. Participating in the Mass brought her peace. Throughout her lifetime, she was actively involved in many church activities, committees, Eucharistic ministry and the lay order of the Franciscans. Just this past summer, Ruth created a three-season flower garden dedicated to Our Lady in the backyard. Lately, she was doing a lot of praying that the squirrels would not dig up the bulbs. When questioned about it, she would say, ”Trust the Lord with all your heart.”
Ruth loved flowers, corn on the cob, butterflies, and card games. She was dedicated to her family, always making time to send a letter, make a phone call, cook dinner or visit. She attended school events, life events and was always so proud. Game night became a tradition, she would cook dinner, (our favorite being her pork, dumplings, and sauerkraut), then, we would play cards until all hours of the night. Game night brought the family together, lots of stories and laughter.
If anyone came for a visit or just stopped in, before you knew it, you will be playing cards. You better have your quarters, dimes, and nickels. She was very good at all the family favorites be it Hit Me, Hand and Foot, or Pinochle. I hear she has quite a very large stash of change.
Rest in Peace, Ruth J. Ungar. After the 93 and a half years God gave you with us, now He has taken your many aches and pains away and brought you to Him. You have taught us to trust in Him with all your heart. Do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5,6
