Lawrence "Larry" Martin Duffy

EULOGY: Thank you for joining Larry's sister, Carolyn Kalus & her husband, Chuck, as we celebrate the life of Larry Duffy today, Saturday, August 22nd here at St. Malachi's Church. Larry was a beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend to many! After a long and courageous battle with health issues over many years; particularly, the past five years, Larry is finally at PEACE! He is free of suffering in body, mind and spirit, resting peacefully in the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ in Heaven! 💜✝️💜 While our hearts mourn Larry's absence, we now gather together to honor his life and to share fond memories. Larry was a dedicated, contributing member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 30+ years! He attended AA meetings faithfully (twice-weekly) for decades in spite of having to deal with persistant health issues. Larry drove a cab for a living and was known for his dedication to his company, his punctuality, his care extended to his scheduled daily riders and his friendships with fellow cab drivers. Larry had a special connection to St. Malachi Church! He & his sister, Carolyn, joined our community at ages two and six months, respectively, in 1952. Their parents, Catherine & Martin Duffy moved into the Lakeview Terrace Housing Projects next door to St. Malachi's in 1952. Six months later, in 1953, Larry & Carolyn's father, Martin, passed away suddenly! Larry was two and a half years old...Carolyn was one year old! Larry and Carolyn attended St. Malachi's School until 1964...and, they received their sacraments at St. Malachi's Church. Their widowed mother, Catherine, remained in our parish with her two children from 1952 until 1964 when she married Carl J. Esker and moved to his home. Prior to Catherine's marriage, she became the organist here at St. Malachi's; a position she held for 18 years...1961-1979! Her career ended in 1979 when she suffered a debilitating stroke; eventually, going home to be with the Lord on January 30, 1981. Today, Larry is resting in God's eternal peace with his & Carolyn's mother, Catherine and father, Martin, for all eternity...Amen! ✝️ “Those we love don’t go away; they walk beside us every day."

Burial will be held immediately after the Celebration of Life.
