Karen W Schmidt [Wohlschlager], 65, our mother, grandmother, and sister, passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021, at Willowood Care Center in Brunswick, Ohio. She was born July 15, 1956, in Medina, Ohio, to Frank and Ellen [Byard] Wohlschlager.
Karen held professional HR positions for over 20 years covering the management and administration of employee benefits. She had attended Ursuline College studying HR Management and Psychology.
Karen is survived by her daughters Jessica and Monika; her grandchildren Jack, Grace, Lilly, Margo, and Claire; and her sister Mary Ann. She also leaves a host of cousins and friends to mourn her passing.
Karen supported multiple charitable organizations including Susan G Komen for the Cure [breast cancer], and St. Baldrick’s Foundation [childhood cancer]. She spent a large portion of her time concerned with supporting and uplifting underserved or oppressed women.
In many ways, we lost Karen some time ago. The struggle with mental health, dementia, and addiction took its toll over the years, but with this closing chapter, she is, at last, at peace. At her request, she has been cremated and her cremains will be scattered over the Rocky Mountains. There will be no calling hours or memorial service; however, memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.neptunesociety.com/location/cleveland-cremation. Services provided by the Neptune Society.
