Skoda, Joseph F. of Mayfield Heights, OH entered into eternal rest on January 23, 2018. Joe was born February 23, 1931 at his home on Waterloo Road in Cleveland. He attended St. Ignatius High School, where he played football, and later graduated from John Carroll University. Joe also served our country with the United States Army and was an active member of the American Legion.
Joe was a CPA for 64 years at Skoda Minotti, a business advisory firm he founded in the 1960’s. During his time away from work he enjoyed spending time outdoors. During the winter he loved to ski and during the milder months would go sailing, taking his boat, The Clairvoyant, out whenever he wanted a nice getaway. He took pleasure in sharing his adventures with his fellow members of the Edgewater Yacht Club. Though Joe loved his work, retirement suited him. He enjoyed watching football and golf, and could always be heard cheering for his beloved Indians.
Joe was a long-time member of St. Noels Catholic Church in Willoughby, which he helped to construct. He found great joy in volunteering at St. Augustine Catholic Church and participating in C.E.R.T., a program that educates volunteers about disaster preparedness and trains in basic disaster response skills. Joe was also a Rotarian for 50 years, always helping his community in any way he could.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Baby Boy Skoda; brother, John Skoda; and parents, Francis and Frances Skoda.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 11 years, Rita Skoda of Mayfield Heights, OH; children, Greg (Patti) Skoda of Chagrin Falls, OH, Chris Skoda of Highland Heights, OH, and Brenda (Michael) DeLeo of Hudson, OH; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Military honors and interment will take place Friday, February 16, 2018, 11 a.m., at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery (10175 Rawiga Road, Rittman). Family and friends are welcome to gather at the Landerhaven reception center (6111 Landerhaven Drive, Mayfield Heights, OH) following the service to continue the celebration of Joe’s life.
Memorial contributions may be made in Joe’s name to St. Ignatius High School (1911 W. 30th Street, Cleveland, OH 44113) and/or John Carroll University (1 John Carrol Blvd, University Heights, OH 44118).
Joe leaves behind a tremendous number of family members and friends who loved him dearly. He will be greatly missed.
