John Nemeth of Willoughby, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at the age of 91 after a heroic battle with cancer. John died peacefully with his beloved wife Phyllis of 53 plus years, and friends and family close by.
John was born in Albany, LA in 1929. He joined the US Air Force immediately after High School and served in South Korea until 1950 as a radio man teaching Morse Code to the South Koreans.
When John was honorably discharged from the service, he moved to the Cleveland area and worked at Towmotor Inc. in Mentor from which he retired in 1985. During this time, he met local RN Phyllis Kelly. They married in 1967.
John was an avid gardener, enjoyed his grandchildren, biking, reading, and volunteered at local schools and libraries.
John was preceded in death by his mother, father, all 8 of his siblings, and his son John Nemeth Jr. He is survived by his wife Phyllis; daughter Johna Nemeth (Dave) of Culpeper, VA; son Charles Kelly (Peggy) of Mentor, OH; grandchildren Phillip Kelly (Shan), and Ellie Kelly Gerbracht (Dan).
John’s friends would say he was a kind a gentle person. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him. A celebration of life will be held privately for his close friends and family.
