Joan grew up in Lakewood, OH, but spent most of her life in Aurora, OH, raising three daughters (and a stepdaughter on weekends) as well as being very involved in her community and Christian Science faith. At different times in her life, she was a professional secretary, elementary teacher, seamstress, financial planner assistant, newspaper stringer, and small business co-owner with her husband (both a specialized industrial glass business and selling Christmas trees from their farm). She had too many interests to name, but loved to keep active mentally and physically and was civic- and environmentally-minded. She had a passion for travel, visiting all 50 states and many places all over the world. She also was a devoted Christian Scientist, serving her Hudson, OH, church in almost every capacity, writing articles for national publications, and taking enough Bible courses throughout her lifetime to equate with attending seminary.
Joan was predeceased by her parents, Paul and Angela Cook, husband Claude Greig, and daughter Karen Greig. She is survived by her sister Ginny (Bob) Henry of Timnath, CO; stepdaughter Tina (Chuck) Blair of Rowlett, TX; daughter June (James) Lucal of Aurora, OH; daughter Laura (Troy) Vermeil of Loveland, OH; nine grandchildren (Eli, Colleen, Bridget, Ivy, Ben, Matthew, Louise, Wes, Evie) and four great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 30, 5 p.m., at The Church in Aurora, with a reception immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the Moebius Nature Center, the National Parks Conservation Association, or Crystal Lake Camps (a Christian Science youth camp in Hughesville, PA).
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.neptunesociety.com/location/cleveland-cremation for the Greig family.
