Charles D. Barber

Born in Grand River, Ohio he was the son of the late Edgar and Augusta Marsch Barber. He graduated from Mentor High School and Ohio Wesleyan University. Chuck excelled in both athletics and academics on both high school and collegiate levels. He was a proud member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity, Phi Delta Epsilon, Honorary Collegiate Journalism Fraternity and Student Pastor of OWU.

Chuck was a Veteran of the United States Air Force, and served proudly during the Korean War. He was honored to participate in the 2018 Honor Flight for Veterans to Washington, D.C.

Chuck had an expansive career in business. He excelled in Human Resources and Personnel with companies such as Aetna, Mid-Continent Telephone Company, McCall Printing Company, The State of South Carolina’s Welfare to Work program, Agape Hospice and was an official in three sports for the state of Ohio High School Athletic Association.

The love of his life was his beloved Carolyn Talley Barber whom he was married for 54 years. He is survived by their three children; Cheryl (Sarah) of Willoughby, Beth of Chagrin Falls and Chip of Raleigh, North Carolina. Chuck is also survived by grandchildren, Lee Tillman (Jennifer) of Hartsville, SC, Carolyn Marsch Cauthen (Trey) of Cheraw, SC and Alyssa Barber of Dunedin, FL. Great grandchildren; Catherine Grace Crawford of Cheraw, SC, Justin King of Pageland, SC and Eva Raines Tillman of Hartsville, SC. He was also the brother of the late Ed Barber, Doug Barber and Evelyn Barber Craig. He was a devoted Uncle to his many nieces and nephews, and their children.

A Memorial Service to honor and celebrate the life of Chuck Barber will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., at the United Methodist Church of Chagrin Falls, where Chuck was a member for nearly 70 years. The family will greet friends after the service at Harris Hall.
