Casilda Icilyn Brown Dellop of Youngstown, Ohio passed away on January 27, 2025 at the age of 93.. She was born to James Pratt and Carmeta Williams on November 21, 1931, in Free Town, Clarendon, where she grew up in Jamaica, West Indies.
She worked to support herself as a housekeeper until she met Stanford Brown. They married in 1958. In 1968 she migrated to the United States, where she lived as a permanent resident, in Baltimore, Maryland. Two years later in 1970, the rest of the family joined her. Casilda and Stanford Brown divorced in 1982.
Supporting herself and five children now as a single parent was extremely difficult, but she knew how to budget, cut corners and save. Even to the point of purchasing a home for her and her children. She remarried a second time to Selwyn Dellop in 1993. They divorced in 2001.
She was an excellent cook and always enjoyed having her children and grandchildren over for Sunday Dinners. One grandchild expressed her memory of sitting on grandma's velvet sofa, waiting for dinner to be served. While smelling the delicious aroma coming from the kitchen.
Casilda was a strong, quiet woman, who was loved and respected by everyone who met her. When she saw that the church which she regularly attended was going in a direction that she knew was not according to the Bible’s standards, she separated herself and started attending the Lutherville, Maryland Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with her two daughters, Lorna Numbers and Marcia McMillian.
Sister Brown or Mama Brown or Mama Cass as she was affectionately known did not have any formal schooling. At age 82 she began studying the Bible with Rashad Smith, her grandson. Her desire to learn about Jehovah God and his purpose for mankind was so strong that she taught herself how to read. She was an avid reader …not a fluent one ….but there wasn’t a word that she couldn’t figure out how to pronounce.
At age 83 she dedicated her life to Jehovah and became a baptized Christian Jehovah’s Witness. By age 89 she moved to Youngstown, Ohio, now being associated with the Youngstown South Central Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. You didn’t have to talk to her long before she would start telling you about her wonderful God and all he has done for her. In fact, she regularly spent 50 hours per month telling people about Jehovah. Down to the very last part of her illness she was sharing the name of Jehovah and his goodness to anyone who would listen.
Among the many things Jehovah has done for her, she would tell you that he has blessed her with five wonderful children and a stepdaughter who is like her own. These are listed along with their spouses as follows: Children; Dorothy Thompson (James Thompson), of Youngstown, Ohio, Kenroy Brown (Denise Brown), of Baltimore, Maryland, Marcia McMillian, of Baltimore, Maryland Michael Brown (Linda Brown), of Charlotte, North Carolina, Lorna Numbers (Douglas Numbers), of Lutherville, Maryland
Jeanette Brown Parchment- Step Daughter, of West Palm Beach, Florida
She is preceded in death by one ex-husband, all of her siblings except one and a grandchild-Shantell Brown.
