Sylvia was born on March 17, 1932 in New York, New York.
Sylvia attended Smith College in Massachusetts before receiving her undergraduate degree at Penn State University.
After graduating, she worked at NBC in New York City for many years in the marketing department.
Sylvia was married to Alvin Myerson for 67 years before he preceded her in death earlier this year.
Sylvia will be remembered for her indominable spirit and for living life on her terms. She loved traveling, boating, reading and was windsurfing, playing tennis and completing the New York Times crossword puzzle well into her 80’s.
Later in life, Sylvia returned to school and received a Master’s degree from Columbia University, studying one of her passions, Mayan civilization. She visited Mayan ruins in the Central American jungle and successfully authored a paper on the interpretation of Mayan hieroglyphics.
Sylvia is survived by daughter Shelley Curtis (David) of Evans, GA, son Paul Myerson (Kim Sanchioni) of Upton, MA and brother Joe Goodson (Susan) of Riverside, CA.
“Amma” is also survived by grandchildren Amy Crupie (John), Benjamin Curtis (Beverly), Alex Myerson (Loren) and Tim Myerson as well as great-grandchildren Caroline and Anna Crupie and Laura and Katherine Curtis.
Surviving extended family members include Carmen Azmitia, Margarita and Louie Gonzalez, Alina and Linda Azmitia, Victoria and Joel Montalvo and David Gonzalez.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation in Sylvia’s name be made to your favorite charity.
