Richard T. Lillie, Sr., age 83, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025, at RWJBarnabas Health in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Born on June 24, 1941, in Perth Amboy, NJ before living in Carteret, NJ, Linden, NJ, and finally in North Brunswick Township, NJ. He lived a life defined by quiet strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family.
Richard went to Woodbridge High School, where he met and later married his high school sweetheart Barbara H Lillie (née Ludera). Together they shared 63 wonderful years. Their life was filled with love, faith, and cherished memories.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara. He was a devoted father and granddad to; son, Richard Lillie Jr. and wife Dora, of Old Bridge, NJ and his grandson Christopher Lillie of Winter Park, FL; his daughter, Sandra Lillie-Gunderson and husband Eddie, of Burlington Township, NJ. He is also survived by his brothers; John Lillie of Iselin, NJ, and Stanley Lillie of Georgia. He was also a cherished uncle to many nephews and a niece.
Richard served his country in the US Army Reserves. He built a career in supermarket services, later working at Metro Drugs, and then becoming a salesman and merchandiser. During his younger years, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Richard had a deep love for his grandson. He was a talented artist who enjoyed drawing and painting. He spent many joyful days at the beach. He enjoyed spending time on the water: boating, fishing, and crabbing.
A quiet and soft-spoken man, Richard will be remembered for his gentle spirit, steadfast support, and deep love for his family. He led by example, offering kindness, and encouragement to all who knew him. He lived his Catholic faith with humility and generosity.
May Richard’s soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
