Otis is survived by three children: Mary Beth Skleros, Tai Quinn, and John Evans; seven grandchildren: Sarah Alberts, Rebecca Partisi, Christina Skleros, Thomas Skleros, Katie Quinn, Natalie Evans, and Melissa Evans; eight great-grandchildren and his sister, Martha Higgins.
He was born on September 5, 1930 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania to John Otis Evans and Myrna Louise Carter Evans. The youngest of four children, he grew up in North Irwin, PA and attended North Huntingdon High School, where he met his true love, and future partner for life, Mary Ellen George. Sadly, Mary Ellen passed away on December 29, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Otis and Mary Ellen first met in 1947 and, according to each, knew that they were destined to spend the rest of their days together. And, over the course of the following 70 years, they did just that…creating countless memories of extraordinary feats grounded in the underlying principle of love for each other and those around them. From adopting two children to serving as foster parents for many others to spending four years in Nigeria as representatives of the World Church Service to being active members of their local and church communities, Otis and Mary Ellen truly embodied the philosophy of “One Human Race”. Together, they strove to make the world a better place.
Otis will be remembered for his love of many things…birdwatching, playing tennis, philosophy, Civil War history, classical music, chocolate nonpareils, poetry and world travel to name but a few. But, most of all, he will be remembered for the love he had for family…none more than his eternal partner, Mary Ellen.
