Mort was an incredibly smart yet humble and kind man, who regularly completed the New York Times crossword puzzle in no time at all. He attended Brooklyn Technical High School and graduated from The Cooper Union with an engineering degree. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
He enjoyed a long, successful career at ExxonMobil which gave him opportunities to live and work around the world. Mort felt it was important to give back, so he spent his retirement years volunteering to read for the blind, preserve Maui’s cultural lands, and tutor high school students in math.
Mort’s gentle, genuine, and compassionate spirit endeared him to many. He leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Phyllis Levy; stepdaughter Jennie (Matthew) Harris; grandsons Jackson and Samuel Harris; brother Ted Hausner; nieces Andrea (Chuck) Lehman and Debra (Gary) Figueroa; and children Dawn, Sanford, and Kimberly Hausner.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Maui Cultural Lands.
