Michael James Garvey, of Rumson, NJ, passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and deep connection to all who knew him. He was born on January 27, 1966, in Rockville Centre, New York, to James and Ann Garvey.
Michael was a devoted son, husband, father, family member, and friend. He was a beautiful soul whose strong faith, integrity, and moral character guided him through life’s challenges. His deep love for his children was evident in every moment he spent with them — always present, always supportive, and always ensuring they felt love, structure, and guidance, not the weight of the world. He was endlessly proud of their accomplishments and never missed a chance to speak of them.
His 31-year marriage to his beloved wife, Dawn, was a true testament to his loyalty and devotion. Michael stood by her side through every joy and every hardship, especially during her health challenges, with unwavering strength and care.
Michael will be remembered for his infectious laugh that lit up every room, his brilliant and witty mind, and his success as a financial professional and mentor to many.
His annual fishing trips with close friends were among his most cherished traditions — filled with laughter, camaraderie, and support from a loyal crew who marveled at Michael’s skill, proudly recognizing him as the best at “tying his flys.”
A man who never took for granted the value of connection, Michael cherished his lifelong friendships — from childhood, through college, his business life in New York City, and later, his Rumson community. He often said he was “blessed to have” the people in his life, and those who knew him felt the same.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Dawn Garvey; his cherished children, Matthew, Daniel, and Brianne; his devoted parents, James and Ann Garvey; his sister, Pamela Garvey; and his nephew, Isaac Pendergast.
A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Rumson, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the GoFundMe charity established to support the family during this difficult time.
