Margaret Ann “Peg” Straube, a deeply selfless, kind, and loving woman who always put her family above all else, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2026, after individually telling her husband, each of her children and grandchildren she loved them and to “be good”. She was 88 years old.
After being born and growing up in Jersey City, NJ, Peg moved to the country to raise her family in Whitehouse Station, NJ. She also lived in Hawley, PA, and Flagler Beach, FL, before making her most recent home in Franklin Township, Hunterdon County, NJ. Wherever she lived, she centered her life around the people she loved.
In Peg’s earlier years she started her career as a keypunch operator in New York and later became a computer department manager for Quick Check Food Chains in Whitehouse Station, NJ for more than 15 years. She was highly respected and appreciated by her colleagues.
To know Peg was to know her gentle spirit and her quiet passions. An avid reader, she could often be found with a book in hand and a warm cup of tea nearby. She possessed a sharp mind and loved playing cards, scrabble, or sitting down to complete crossword and picture puzzles. Peg was also an incredibly talented crafter, sewing clothing for her children and grandchildren and crocheting beautiful doilies in abundance for those she cared about.
In her earlier years, Peg loved to travel. She cherished family vacations and proudly served as the navigator on many unforgettable road trips across the US. This was a role she excelled at thanks to her genuine love for navigation and reading maps, hence her nickname “MAPS”. At home, her kitchen was a place of gathering and warmth; she was a wonderful baker, known by many for her delicious, pumpkin bread, pound cake and lemon squares.
Peg’s greatest legacy was her family. She was the beloved wife of Harold Straube, with whom she shared 66 wonderful years of marriage. She was the devoted mother to Eric Straube (and daughter-in-law Grete), Cindee Straube, and Sandra Heater (and partner Scott Casterlin). She held a special place in her heart as the grandmother to Erin Straube Stine (husband Paul), Shane Heater (wife Eunice), Kyle Straube and Ava Heater, and she was overjoyed to be the great-grandmother to Evelyn “Evie” Stine.
Peg is survived by her beloved sister, Kathryn Ruddy; her brothers, John Lynch (Bernadette) and William F. Morton (Rosemary); and her many dearly loved nieces and nephews.
Peg will reunite with those who preceded her in death: her mother, Margaret Agnes King; her father, John Lynch; her stepfather, William Morton; her brother, Gerard Lynch; and her sister, Therese Lynch.
Peg will be deeply missed by those who brightened her life. Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love will live on in memories cherished for a lifetime.
A Memorial Service, followed by a Celebration of Life will be held on
Sunday, November 22, 2026, at 3:00pm in Clinton United Methodist Church-12 Halstead Street Clinton, NJ 08809.
