Back in 1996 I suddenly had a ruptured colon. I was immediately sent to the emergency room at Pascack Valley hospital. Dr.  Disavrerio was called in to do the surgery. I could not have had a better surgeon. He not only probably saved my life but was the most compassionate person that I had ever met. You could just tell by looking at his facial expressions that he was so concerned for my well being. I am sad to hear of his passing. I believe he enjoyed hiking and now he has reached the highest plateau of Heaven. God Bless him and his family. Even though I knew him for such a short period in my life I will miss Dr. Disaverio. Dear Maria,
I was recently informed of Joe’s passing.
I was a surgical intern at SVH and only knew Joe for one year. However, I had the privilege to work with him many times in the OR. He taught me a great deal and contributed greatly to my own success as a diagnostic radiologist. I will never forget that year I had the privilege to know him.

Maria, Adrianna and Gab,
I sit here crying after seeing the passing of Joe. He was a wonderful man, I think of you often over the years. Working, babysitting, taking mom to chemo, making racketball times, the memories are with me everyday.
Joe and Maria were so gentle with me during my surgery and chemo. Maria remember the baby shower you gave me, well Jasmine just turned 40!
Life is going to fast.

I only now learned of Joe's passing.  He was a terrific Resident at St. Vincent's, a skilled surgeon and teacher.  He was a significant influence on my training and eventual career.  

Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote something that Joe could have said, "I am a part of all that I have met." His influence stayed long after my General Surgery Residency at St. Vincent's

My husband. Paul and I met Joe and the “New Jersey docs” (including a newly retired medical rep) in 2014  on a hiking trip to the Dolomites. Joe was 70 and a strong hiker. It didn’t hurt on that trip that he spoke fluent Italian.  He was our inspiration to still be hiking into our 70s which we are. Our condolences to Joes’s family and friends.

I worked with Dr. Disaverio at the Pascack Valley Hospital Wound Center.  I loved every minute spent with such a warm, caring, professional.  And funny!  Every Friday he brought us bagels and cream cheese and pigeon stories.  Doc was amazing with the patients, having just the right combination of calm, seriousness and humor to put them at ease.  He was a natural teacher, too; I learned a great deal.  He will always be in my best memories.

Rest in Peace ! It was a pleasure to work with you , and laugh with you as well. You will be missed.

So sorry to hear of this news. Dr. Di was one of my favorites at Valley Hospital and Surgicare of Ridgewood.  Such a kind surgeon and person. A true gentleman. He will surely be missed, especially in the medical field. My condolences to all his friends and family.
