Henry was born in Exeter, New Hampshire to William and Medora (Ross) Hogue, and grew up in the nearby town of Newmarket. Henry enlisted in the Marine Corp in 1943, and served in the South Pacific during World War II from January 1944 through December 1945.
Returning to the States, Corporal Hogue completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees at the University of New Hampshire in the field of Psychology. He went on to earn a Doctoral Degree in Education from Rutgers University.
As a licensed Clinical Psychologist, Henry worked in schools, hospitals, clinics, and in private practice in New Jersey, New York, Virginia, and other states on the east coast. He was a member of the American Psychological Association and served as Director of Guidance in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. He was elected to the Boards of Education in Middletown, New York and Upper Saddle River, New Jersey. Henry’s public service included his work on the Board of Trustees for several libraries and as an invited guest lecturer at a number of universities. Henry spent over 30 years in the Northwest Bergen County Special Education administration, serving as Director of Special Education for the district from the late 1960s until his retirement in 1993. Even in retirement, Henry continued to work as a consultant for private schools for the next two decades, helping to test and recommend children for placement appropriate for their needs.
Henry made time during his busy life to enjoy many hobbies and avocations. As a talented photographer, he leaves behind thousands of photos he took of family, friends, nature, and beloved pets. Many of those pictures he developed himself in his own darkroom setup. Henry enjoyed being outdoors, and spent many days camping and cooking over an outdoor fire, going on long hikes, and skiing down mountains and over cross-country trails. His love and talent for gardening beautified every place he lived, and his passion for classical music and reading brought pleasure to him throughout his long life.
Henry is survived by his former wife Elaine, 8 children: Andrew (Tiffany) of Ho-Ho-Kus, Paul of New York City, Greg (Kelly) of New York City, and John of Ho-Ho-Kus, Kathleen of North Carolina, William (Susan) of South Carolina, James (Rose) of North Carolina, Henry (Jon) of Washington, D.C., and 7 grandchildren Nathan, Alison, Sara, Sydney, Alex, Bradley, and Andrea, and 2 great-grandchildren, Jake and Luke.
