Francis (Frank) Vaccarelli, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Toms River, NJ on December 18, 2024.
Born March 26, 1939 in New York City, Frank grew up on Kelly Street in the Fort Apache section of the Bronx. As a child, Frank enjoyed playing stickball in the streets and spending summers with his family in Keansburg NJ. He took enormous pride in being big brother to his 3 sisters, and in being able to hit the spaldeen ball atop the "L".
Frank was a gifted athlete with blazing speed and was a star running back at Cardinal Hayes High School. As a young adult, Frank served his country in the National Guard.
Frank's 30-year career at Presbyterian Medical Center was chronicled in the book "Like and Death: Story of a Hospital". He was a master horticulturist who created awe inspiring gardens and greenery from plants seeded in his very own greenhouse.
Frank pursued many interests: He managed professional boxers, coached little league teams to championships, and was an avid golfer. He rooted passionately for the Jets, Yankees and Rangers.
Frank had a deep love for animals and nature, a strong sense of adventure, and an infectious sense of humor.
But what made Frank uniquely special is the effortless way he connected with so many people. No matter where he went, Frank would strike up a conversation with everyone he encountered. He will truly be missed.
Frank is survived by his son Geoff, daughter Gina, his grandchildren Emily, Timothy, Andrew and Zachary, his great-grandchildren Charlotte and Connor, his sisters Dorothy, Elizabeth, and Florence, many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins, his loving partner of over 45 years Patricia, and by the fond memories of everyone who had the fortune to know him.
Frank’s family and close friends will gather privately for a Celebration of Frank’s Life. Please contact [email protected] for details.
