Arthur George Carine, Jr. 83 of Weehawken, Monmouth Beach and Cliffside Park, NJ passed away on Sunday, September 3rd, 2023. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Anne Marie (Keenan) Carine and their four children, Arthur George Carine, III, Bethann (Carine) Metro and son in law Steven Metro, Allyson (Carine) Soldo and son in law Steven Soldo, and Tricia (Carine) Scarlata and son in law John Scarlata. He was the proud grandfather of Shane, Colin, John Arthur, Ava, Matthew, and Keenan. Arthur attended Xavier High School and received his B.S. from Fordham University College of Pharmacy in 1961. He completed The Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) program at Fordham University and upon graduation served as a Cadet in the Army Reserves. During his early years, Arthur worked as a neighborhood pharmacist at Atlas Drugs in North Bergen, NJ.
He then changed paths, starting a successful 30-year career in financial services at E.F. Hutton & Co. As a Senior Vice President, he held several leadership positions during his tenure including Head of Syndicate, Marketing and Distribution. Arthur’s Wall Street career continued as a Managing Director on the Equities Syndicate desks at Shearson Lehman Brothers and Lehman Brothers and finally as Chief Operating Officer of Oppenheimer Capital, Quest for Value. Arthur earned his executive MBA at the Wharton Graduate School of Business where he served as a guest lecturer throughout his career. He was an official of the American Stock Exchange; a noteworthy Securities Executive; a member of the advisory board of the Finance Services Review; and a committee chairperson of the Securities Industry Association. He also served on the Board of Directors at Christ Hospital in Jersey City, NJ, and the Town of Monmouth Beach’s Beautification Committee.
Upon retirement at the age of fifty-three, Arthur turned his love of baseball into a second career, owning two minor league baseball teams - the New Jersey Cardinals who won 1994 Championship Season and the Norwich Navigators (Yankees AAA team). A lifelong sports fan, Arthur was an excellent golfer and tennis player. Along with his son, Arthur III, he witnessed the first two New York Football Giants Superbowl wins in Pasadena and Tampa. He also fervently rooted for the Fordham Rams basketball team and received the 2023 Fordham Ram Posse Award in appreciation of his support. A man of tremendous love, gratitude and loyalty, Arthur cherished his many lifelong friends from Xavier, Fordham, and his days on Wall Street. He enjoyed time at the beach, particularly with his grandchildren swimming in the pool, fishing, boating, and playing with his beloved dog, Lady!
He had a work ethic and passion for business like no other; spending hours watching the market tickers across the tv screen, and his Sunday mornings reading the Barrons. Arthur was predeceased by his parents, Arthur G. Carine, Sr, and Marie (Marcelle) Carine and his beloved sister, Carolyn Marie Carine.
A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at Church of St. Francis Xavier, New York City on Friday, September 22nd, 2023, at 1:30 pm.
