Born on September 20, 1949, in Goshen, Indiana, Wayne was an intellectually gifted man and a devoted husband, father, and friend.
In 1967, he attended Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in both Physics and Mathematics. More importantly, it was there that he met the love of his life, Jackie. He later continued his education at the Georgia Institute of Technology, earning a master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering.
Wayne dedicated 40 years of service to the United States Department of Energy, working from September 11, 1972, to September 30, 2012. Much of his career was spent on the Fernald Cleanup Project—an extensive environmental remediation effort that transformed a heavily contaminated uranium plant into a nature preserve.
Wayne had a sharp mind and a quiet strength, but he also had a lighter side. He was an avid NASCAR fan, enjoyed target shooting, and took great pride in tending to the garden. More than anything, he found joy in doing things for Jackie, whether it was gardening, collecting shells on the beach, or simply making her smile.
Above all else, Wayne was a caretaker. He and Jackie, who married on June 6, 1970, shared 55 years of love and partnership. Together, they raised three sons—Patrick, Andrew, and Brandon. Throughout his life, Wayne opened his heart and home to family members in need, always offering love, support, and generosity. He was strong-willed yet kind, wise yet ornery in the best way, and he never wanted anything but the best for those he loved.
Wayne is survived by his beloved wife, Jackie L. Pasko; his sons, Patrick, Andrew, and Brandon; his sister, Ann; and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Mary Ann.
A memorial service will be held on March 5, 2025, at 2:30 PM at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park & Funeral Home in Clearwater, Florida.
