Walter lived his life to the fullest. A man of diverse interests and hobbies, he was a world traveler and adventurer. He had many jobs but was a Merchant Mariner by trade. One would be hard pressed to name a country he hadn’t been to or a body of water he hadn’t sailed; or for that matter, an experience he hadn’t had. He served his country from World War II to Vietnam, eventually retiring from the Merchant Marines in 1970. He continued to sail on petroleum barges throughout the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico until he retired again in the late 1980s.
He was a hunter, angler, amateur artist, avid reader, and an avid communicator. He enjoyed meeting people everywhere he went and stayed in contact with many of them over the years, and over the miles. One of the ten children of Stanislaw and Frances (Florian) Chowaniec of Middletown, he is survived by his remaining, youngest brother Raymond Chowaniec of Middlefield, CT, his daughter Annette Chowaniec of Branford, CT, and a host of nieces and nephews all over the country. He was loved and will be missed as he embarks on this latest adventure.
Arrangements entrusted to Neptune Society Palm Harbor.
