Veda was born on March 21, 1946, in Baltimore Maryland to the late James Elsworth Watkins and May Ann (Soares) Watkins.
She attended Central High School as well as Sawyer Business School. Veda went on to start her career working for ITT Grinell and Gilban, she spent time enjoying and working with the elderly, and later went on to work and retired from John Hope Settlement House as a financial assistant in the fiscal dept. Veda loved her family fiercely and showed everyone a warm heart. She had six brothers; she did not need to worry about anything and enjoyed going out to breakfast with them. A competitive game of Scrabble always kept her entertained, and she often played with her family. She enjoyed cruises with her friends, visiting the casino, but not as much as she liked staying home and watching her soap operas.
She is preceded in death by her brothers James Elsworth Watkins Jr., Ronald Clarence Watkins, Jeffery John Watkins, Gregory Michael Watkins, and Anthony Joseph Watkins.
She is survived by her brother Clifton David Watkins, Children Donald Thomas Jr, Michelle Maria Freeman, and David Anthony Thomas, Son in law Donnell Freeman, Daughter in law Dakota Lynn Thomas, 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
As we say our last goodbyes, we want her to know that we loved her deeply and she will be missed beyond belief.
In honor of Veda Thomas, we will be having a Celebration of life Service this Friday January 31, 2025, from 12:00pm- 4pm. Please join us. Service will be held at The Providence Firefighters Hall 92 Printery Street, Providence, RI 02904.
