Tal was born August 4,1948 in Seoul, Korea. She loved her mother, U Yon Yi, and father, Man Sop Yim, dearly. She is now reunited with them and her brother, Song Sam Yim. She is survived by her son Eric Smith (spouse, Penny Smith); daughter, Iona Flores; daughter, Kimberly Ricci; grandchildren, Cameron Smith, Juliana Flores (16), Madison Ricci (14), and Andrew Flores (14); and her siblings, nieces/nephews, and friends.
Tal left The Republic of Korea in her early 20's to live the American Dream. She came from humble beginnings and saved her money for this dream. She told her daughter a story shortly before she lost her memories to Alzheimer's about her vision of how she knew she would be successful branching out on her own and creating life on her terms.
As a young adult, she worked for Mary Kay earning top saleswomen in her district for which the company gave her a new car. She recalled sitting in the parking lot with her husband, Steve, and thought to herself if this company is willing to give me a brand new car for selling their products, then I must be great at selling things. Tal decided not to take the car and quit on the spot to realize her own dream of becoming a Fashion Designer! She had no formal education for fashion. Tal built Iona Designs, Inc. with pure imagination, gut instincts, and the drive to know she could. Tal then retired at 55 years old and enjoyed traveling the world.
Tal was amazing at anything creative. She loved organizing events and could make a simple flower arrangement look stunning. Her homes looked like they belonged in a designer magazine. She dressed to the nines and always looked elegant. She loved to be around her extended family. Tal was a very independent and extremely outgoing soul that loved people but, at times, would need her solitude. She would hike at Pismo Creek, CA for clarity, peace, and to recharge. That was her favorite place to be when she wasn't busy creating her Iona Designs clothing line. This is where her family will honor her and lay her to rest (future date to be determined).
Instead of sending flowers, kindly consider a donation to a special cause to help families who have loved ones that are suffering from Alzheimer's and need support now.
