Susan Kim Henderson, beloved wife, mother, Gram, sister, and friend, passed away on September 17, 2026, at the age of 66, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 14, 1960, in Kansas City, Missouri, Susan lived a life filled with love, family, friendship, adventure, and an appreciation for the simple, beautiful moments in life.
Susan was married to the love of her life, Archie Henderson Jr. She treasured spending her days by his side, and throughout their many years together, they shared countless adventures and created a lifetime of beautiful memories. Their love was a true example of what marriage is meant to be—standing beside one another through the happiest days and the hardest ones, in sickness and in health, until the very end. Archie remained faithfully by her side throughout her cancer journey, loving and caring for her every step of the way. Their love story is one their family will forever cherish.
Above all else, family was at the heart of Susan’s world. She was a devoted mother to her daughter, Antonia “Toni” Helton, and a proud and loving Gram to Hudson Kole Helton, Evan Todd, Kyle Todd, Jordan Wilson-Bloss, Jarred Wilson and Kemma Scents. She also cherished her great-grandchildren and the joy they brought into her life.
Being “Gram” was one of Susan’s greatest joys. She especially loved watching Hudson play baseball. She could always be found right behind home plate, cheering him on with her camera in hand and somehow capturing the best pictures. She was one of his biggest fans, and watching him play brought her so much happiness. Those games were never just baseball games to her—they were another opportunity to show up for someone she loved, something Susan did so well throughout her life.
Susan had a deep love for horses, the beach, beautiful sunsets, and spending hours shelling along the beach. She appreciated the beauty around her and loved making memories through new experiences and adventures. Many of those adventures were shared with her dear friend and “partner in crime,” Diane Swindlehurst, with whom she shared countless laughs and special memories over the years.
Susan is also survived by her sister, Carla Lynn; her brother, Rick Cavallaro; and a family who will forever feel the absence of her presence while carrying her love with them.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Carl Cavallaro and Sue Cavallaro.
Susan faced breast cancer with remarkable strength, courage, and determination. Throughout her journey, she became an inspiration to so many other women who were fighting battles of their own. She showed others what it meant to keep going even on the hardest days—to hold onto hope, find strength when it seemed impossible, and continue living and loving through it all. Her courage reached far beyond her own family, touching and encouraging women who saw a little more hope for themselves because of the way Susan faced her fight.
To those who knew her, Susan was so much more than words on a page could ever capture. She was a wife, a mom, a Gram, a sister, a friend, a biggest fan, an inspiration, and a source of strength. Her absence leaves an immeasurable space in the lives of those who loved her, but the love she gave will remain with them always.
Her family will carry her with them—in every beautiful sunset, every walk along the beach, every seashell found in the sand, every baseball game, every photograph that captures a moment worth remembering, and every reminder to stop and appreciate the beauty of life.
She was deeply loved, and she will be deeply missed.
