She was preceded in death by her parents Shirley May Shelby, James V. Lott, and step-father DeWayne Archer. She first married her high school sweetheart Anthony Vincent and then married C. Andrew Teater. Both marriages ended in divorce. She had one son, Anthony Vincent, who died at birth. She leaves behind five sisters, Sharon Fahien of Largo, Fl, Sandra Harris (Bill) of Silver Spring, Md, Susan Alley (Bob) of Largo, Fl, Sheila Cartelli of San Jose, Ca, Shelly Datu (Steve) of Red Bluff, Ca, two brothers Raymond Archer (Rowena) of Palo Alto, Ca, William Archer (Lana) of Doolittle, Mo, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Born on March 6, 1945 in Gulfport, Ms., she lived most of her life in San Jose, California. She worked as a waitress for more than forty years before retiring and moving to Florida. The oldest of eight children, she spent most of her life helping and supporting her family. She loved family, reading, gardening, and dogs. She loved taking weekend trips relaxing in Calastoga. She could grow anything, but loved tending her roses. She loved music and attended as many concerts as she could over the years. The Blues was always her favorite. She was never without a dog, starting with her first dog Toby, her siberian husky Sasha, her miniature poodles Annie and Katie, and her last a tea cup poodle name Sasha.

On May 1, 2016, Shirlyn Kay Teater, 71, died at home in Largo, Florida, after a long illness.

She leaves behind five sisters, Sharon Fahien of Largo, Fl, Sandra Harris (Bill) of Silver Spring, Md, Susan Alley (Bob) of Largo, Fl, Sheila Cartelli of San Jose, Ca, Shelly Datu (Steve) of Red Bluff, Ca, two brothers Raymond Archer (Rowena) of Palo Alto, Ca, William Archer (Lana) of Doolittle, Mo, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be interred at the Garden of Light in Cypress Lawn Memorial Park in Colma, Ca. Both her grandparents and her mother are located in the Longshoreman area there.
