Rozella was born on October 21, 1947, in Wolcott, Indiana, and has lived in California, Washington, and Florida. She loved to travel and enjoyed many solo adventures as well as trips with family and friends.
She began her career as a bank teller at the Chesterton State Bank, in Chesterton, Indiana, where she moved into additional positions until she left to work as a legal secretary in Chicago. She relocated to the bay area of California and continued to work as a legal secretary in San Francisco until she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. After an autologous bone marrow transplant in 1998, chemotherapy, and complications leading to kidney failure, she continued to miraculously live and remain in remission another 27 years until her body and mind decided it was time to let go.
An accomplished self-taught pianist, her second career amazingly began while in remission. During the better part of those 27 years, she played piano and organ for numerous churches, and she played piano for several schools, weddings, funerals, and Suzuki Strings in Florida. A highlight of her music career was playing for the Candlelight Processional during Christmas time at Walt Disney World in Orlando. She also sang with choirs and quartets for a number of years. She was active in several Methodist churches until she became too ill to attend services in person.
Rozella was preceded in death by her parents, brother Warren, sister Joyce, son Scott, grandson Christopher, and granddaughter Elissa. She is survived by her sister Gloria, daughters Lyn and Kim, her son Mark, grandchildren Nick, Mitch, Miranda, and Alex, and great grandchildren Skyler, Logan, Cameron, Carter, and Leilana. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
An informal gathering of remembrance and celebration will be held this Sunday, March 16th, from 3pm-6pm in the Rochester Park complex community center. Rochester Park is located at 1410 Candlelight Blvd, Brooksville, Fl 34601.
A celebration of life gathering will also be held in Indiana this fall. Details for this event will be announced at a later date.
