Born on December 13, 1940, in Erfurt, Germany, to Heinz and Ruth Henkel, Ron immigrated to the United States in 1957. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1966 and went on to become a naturalized citizen—a milestone he cherished deeply. Ron spent his professional career as a mechanical engineer with Square D Corporation.
Ron’s life took a joyful turn when he met the love of his life, Rosaria “Sara” Jean, on a blind date in 1962. The family settled in Clearwater Beach, Florida, in 1972, where they built a life filled with love and laughter while raising their three sons: Todd, Michael, and Ronald Jr.
In retirement, Ron was known for his love of music and his warm, charismatic presence. He sang for many years with the choir at Chapel by the Sea in Clearwater Beach, was a member of the Florida Suncoast Barbershop Chorus, and could often be found delighting friends and strangers alike with his karaoke performances at the American Legion Post 119.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Heinz and Ruth, and his twin brother, Bernd.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sara Jean; sons Todd, Mike, and Ron (Louise); grandchildren Ashli (Wit) Cannon, Bradyn Freeman, and Ava Henkel; great-grandchildren Kate, Brooke, and Kaia; niece Michelle Orton; and nephew Scott (Melissa) Henkel.
In lieu of flowers or gifts donations may be made in honor of Ronald to the Clearwater Beach Chapel by the Sea non-denominational church, 54 Bay Esplanade, Clearwater, FL 33767.
