Bob is survived by his daughter, Tanya Vohar, (soon to be) son-in-law Lester Maloon, step siblings Karen Iverson, Steven Iverson, and Kathy Rausa, cousins Alice Anne Kovalchik, Michael Dushner and Jennie Ferrell, as well as many friends who turned into family. He loved his family deeply, and would never hesitate to help anyone in need.
Bob was born in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania. July 7, 1944 to George Vohar and Virginia Louise (Carney) Vohar. He grew up in Springfield, MA and graduated from Classical High School. He joined the Airforce and held the rank of Sargent. He was proud of his service, and was very proud of all military personnel and their sacrifice for our country. He would often anonymously pick up the tab for lunch for an active duty member or first responder to say thank you. He was also known to carry dog treats with him so that he would have something to give a service dog.
He moved to Florida in 1991 and never looked back the cold snow up north. He loved to fish and one of his favorite spots was at Medard Park in Plant City. He enjoyed cooking, and was always trying out his recipes on his daughter when she was home for supper. He loved the New York Yankees and watching the Little League World Series. During retirement, he enjoyed going to the Tampa Bay Lightning games and an occasional Tampa Bay Rays game when they were playing the Red Sox to indulge his daughter. He volunteered at The Florida Aquarium, helping educate patrons on Florida's marine life. He loved interacting with the guests on the dolphin watch cruises. He also spent time helping other seniors who were not as computer savvy, learn about their computers, tablets, smartphones, and of course, texting.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at The Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 2:00 PM. A celebration of life will follow at The Whistle Stop in Plant City, given by his close friends and neighbors Marti and Jerry Lofstrom. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Canine for Vets, Avenue of 444 Flags Foundation, 2619 East State St., Hermitage, PA 16148. www.avenueofflags.com
