Born in Muncie, Indiana in 1936, he was the youngest of 9 children and Bob soon realized he had to work hard to get ahead in this world. In his teens, he moved to Upstate New York and worked on a dairy farm. After his time of milking cows and mucking out stalls was over, he went to Rochester to be an apprentice machinist.
The desire to honor his country came in 1954 when Bob enlisted in the Navy and became a radioman on the USS Northampton during the Korean War. He also had the honor of serving on President Eisenhower's Communications Staff in Key West, Florida.
After his Honorable Discharge from the Navy, he decided to go back to school at which time he got an Associate Degree in accounting and then to the New York Institute of Finance for his Brokerage License. Bob continued to pursue his drive to better himself by later becoming a National Development Coordinator for dealers of computer media. Then in the late 1970's he became Vice President and Treasurer of an Office and Data Processing company until his retirement.
After moving to Florida in the 1990's, he resided in Bay Island Condominium Complex. He truly loved the warm and sunny weather and enjoyed golfing, boating and fishing. In 2003, Bob decided to get involved with City politics and was elected to the South Pasadena Commission. During his term, he also served as Vice Mayor and was involved in the City's Finance and Public Safety Departments.
Bob also served on the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council, attended Florida Regional Community Police Institute, as well as the Emergency Management Institute (FEMA).
After his wife retired, they traveled cruising the world. He loved cruising because it always reminded him of his Navy days on the open seas. Bob always had an easy smile and contagious laugh, and as a result was beloved by his family, his extended family, his friends and co-workers.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years - Maryann (Luzak) Daugherty
- Daughter: Kimberly (Greg) LeMond of Chicago, Illinois
- Son: Sean (Elana) Daugherty of Buffalo, New York
- Grandchildren - Alex and Jack LeMond, Robert Edward and Kaycee Daugherty
Bob left his mark in this world and always appreciated the people who helped him achieve it.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.neptunesociety.com/location/tampa-cremation for the Daugherty family.
