On March 15, 2019, Dick Widell passed away at his home in Largo, Florida.
Born on July 25, 1925, Dick was the son of Harvey and Alice Widell.
Drafted out of his senior year at Oswego High School, Dick served in World War II in the South Pacific on the USS Barnstable. After the war, Dick finished his senior year at Oswego High, went on to graduate from Brockport State University, and taught 8th grade science and coached various sports at Mexico Academy and Central Schools for over 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Marguerite, sons, Dick (Sandy), Jim (Beth), Tom (Nancy) and daughter, Eileen (Steve) Robinson and brother Tom (Diane) Sheldon, and brothers-in-law Jim (Mary) Jones and Robert (Carmie) Jones. Dick also leaves behind 15 grand children, 30 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Betty Sheldon and a brother, Bob Sheldon.
Dick enjoyed participating and watching sports, doing crossword puzzles, and loved his family and his church deeply. He will be sorely missed by all those who crossed his path in life. Dick is a member of the Mexico High School Alumni Hall of Fame and the Mexico High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
A memorial service was held at Calvary Episcopal Church in Indian Rocks Beach, FL. and another will be held this summer in Mexico, NY. In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship is being set up in his honor.
