Richard (Dick) Robins Shapiro, “Kojak,” age 77, of Hudson, Florida, passed on Sunday, March 6, 2022, surrounded by his children. He was born on September 22, 1944, in New London, Connecticut, and was preceded in death by his parents, Jean and Nathan Shapiro, and his brother Robert (Bob) Shapiro. Dick was a man who lived his life gathering friends and people that loved him everywhere he went. He was a lover of cats, and his favorite past-time was supporting his family with a camera in hand.
Those left behind include his older brother Bert; children Aarene and Josh with their spouses Dave & Amanda; grandchildren, Dave Jr., Trinity, Micah, Jeremiah, Kayleigh, Alexis, and Christian; his former wife, Carol Shapiro; many nieces and nephews; and many other friends and family.
His bright smile and deep, infectious laugh brightened every place he entered. Whether it be a school event, family celebration, get-together, a gymnastics meet, BMX race, horse show, drum performance, soccer game, or simply the need for a hug, Dad/Grandpa/Papa was there every chance he got. He was adored and cherished by everyone who met him.
His supply of jokes was endless, as were the laughs that followed. Dick had an intrinsic eye for photography, capturing the most beautiful of family moments, colorful sunsets, and his love for the world around him.
He loved BIG, living to have no regrets and sure that his family knew how much they all meant to him; he had a life well-lived by the motto “enjoy life this is not a dress rehearsal”; he will be missed and remembered by many.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to his favorite non-profit organization.
