Michael was born in Illinois, and dedicated much of his life to helping others. As the head of Mental Health Disasters for the state of Illinois, he played an integral role in assisting those affected by crises, offering his expertise, compassion, and unwavering commitment to those in need. He also worked with FEMA on the aftermath of the flooding of the Mississippi, Hurricane Katrina, and 911. His legacy in the field of mental health is immeasurable, and his work touched countless lives across the country.
As man of many talents, Michael loved nothing more than spending time in his garage or basement, fixing things and working on projects, whether for his home or helping others. His family and friends often knew him as the "go-to" person for repairs, always willing to lend a hand with a smile and all the tools and more for the job.
Michael was the cherished husband of Kathy, with whom he shared over 50 years of love and companionship. Together, they built a life full of memories, laughter, and unwavering support. He was a devoted father to his children, Katye and her partner David, Tom, and his wife Sarah. He was also a proud grandfather to his three grandchildren: Faye, Owen, and Graham, who brought him immense joy.
Michael's memory will live on in the hearts of his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family, and many friends. A service to celebrate Michael’s life will be held at the dates below. The family invites all who knew him to join in honoring his incredible contributions to both his community and his family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Suncoast Hospice Foundation. Suncoast Hospice helped us as they do with many other families during the difficult journey at the end of life:
